“The One Table” Special Exhibition

Hello.

We are delighted to announce that the exhibition begins today!

“The One Table” – Baskets and Gara-bou Spun Cotton Stoles –

Alongside Japanese walnut and akebi baskets, as well as Lithuanian willow baskets,
this exhibition features stoles made with the traditional “Gara-bou” spinning method.

These Gara-bou stoles are woven from organic cotton by Suno & Morrison.

This is the first time we are introducing these pieces at our shop.

Although we usually focus on natural-material baskets, these stoles are also crafted with great care,
made entirely from cotton through thoughtful handwork.

Their warm, textured feel pairs beautifully with baskets,
and together they create a combination that seems to warm not only the body but also the heart during the colder months.

“Gara-bou” refers to a type of yarn spun on the Gara-bou spinning machine,
which was developed in Japan in the late Meiji period (early 1900s).

The machine draws cotton upward from a cylinder, slowly stretching the fibers while rotating,
and twists them together to create yarn through its distinctive mechanism.

The rhythmic “gara-gara-gara” sound it produces while operating is said to be the origin of its name.

Because the yarn is spun very slowly and with great care,
it holds plenty of air, resulting in a soft, simple texture reminiscent of hand-spun yarn.

It creates a character unique to Gara-bou — something that modern mass-production machines simply cannot reproduce.

This Gara-bou yarn is then woven on an old-style power loom,
known as a “rikishokki,” creating Suno & Morrison’s original waffle-textured fabric through a slow, gentle weaving process.

It provides reliable warmth in winter and can be worn lightly in spring,
making it a comfortable piece to use across many seasons.

At first glance, the fabric may appear rustic, but once you touch it, the softness draws you in —
and what surprises most is its remarkable lightness.

Wrapped around the neck or draped over the shoulders, it settles gently against the body with a natural, comforting feel.

It is breathable and, unexpectedly, dries quickly as well. Warm to the touch,
it is a stole that eases both body and mind during the colder months.

There are four sizes of the Gara-bou stoles available. (Prices shown are as of November 2025.)

*Blanket Stole JPY 35,200 (tax included)

This is the largest size. It can be placed on the sofa as a lap blanket, or layered over a duvet as bedding. It also works beautifully as an oversized shawl over a coat, or worn indoors wrapped around the waist like a skirt.

*Medium Stole JPY 23,100 (tax included)

This versatile size can be wrapped around the neck or worn over the shoulders like a shawl. As a muffler, it has a pleasant volume that adds a touch of elegance to your outfit.

*Muffler Stole JPY 14,300 (tax included)

This size works perfectly as a daily muffler. Ideal for a walk in the park or a quick trip to the shops, it is light and easy to carry. Loved by people of all ages, it also makes a thoughtful gift.

*Baby & Kids Stole JPY 6,600 (tax included)

This child-sized stole also makes a lovely gift for a newborn celebration. It is a popular choice for adults as well, worn as a small, lightweight scarf.

At the shop, we have many more colors and patterns available beyond those shown here.

We hope you enjoy the time spent choosing the size and design that feels just right for you.

For yourself, to share with someone close, or as a thoughtful gift, these stoles are a lovely choice.

Gara-bou stoles are lightweight, soft to the touch, and visually delightful as well.

Personally, I find myself reaching for mine often — for outings, on the sofa at home, or while working at my desk.
It is a piece that naturally becomes part of daily life.

Please enjoy these pieces — delightful to look at, gentle on the body, and uplifting to the spirit.

We look forward to welcoming you.

The special exhibition will be arranged on the center table.

All other shelves will display our regular selection as usual. Along with restocked items, we will also be introducing newly arrived pieces.

We hope you enjoy exploring those as well.
